Tess van Stekelenburg Personal
I exist at the intersection of the natural and technological worlds, exploring each realm to unleash function and beauty.

I work at Lux Capital, where I invest & partner with scientists and engineers to push the frontiers of what was possible in areas like neuroscience, computational biology & more.

One of my core missions in life is to bring more beauty into the world. One of the things I find most beautiful is the evolution of information, primarily nature's code.

I studied Biological Sciences and Neuroscience in London and Oxford. Here, I worked in laboratories in Computational Neuroscience at UCL and The University of Oxford where I leveraged a combination of 2-photon optogenetics & 2-photon imaging, fMRI and electrophysiology on neural circuits in the hippocampus and entorhinal cortex to help form an understanding of how we build, and navigate internal models of the external world.

Many of the tools that we are developing in computational biology are giving us the capabilities to- for the first time in history - begin to decipher, and harness the rules of evolution to design entirely new biologies from very simple building blocks.

I am currently exploring the downstream ramifications of this. Such as understanding how we can use computational tools to understand microbial warfare to find more tools (i.e PCR enzymes, CRISPR's Cas9 nucleases and other scissors). as well as to design and protect life.

I get energy from new ideas and people. All views (except boring ones) welcomed. If you are interested to meet email me!
